Accounting Manager

Location: Danvers, MA

DESCRIPTION: We are looking to hire an Accounting Manager directly reporting to the president. The selected candidate will be the go-to person for accounting operations and business finances. This candidate will have experience as an accountant in engineering, architecture or construction industry, preferably in a senior role. Candidate will be responsible for providing timely and accurate financial reporting to the executive team and managing a department of 7-10 employees.

The candidate should be analytical, detail-oriented, honest, and possess excellent leadership and interpersonal skills as well as a strong understanding of accounting and management principles, financial legislation, and taxation. The candidate should have keen problem-solving and listening skills. This candidate must have the ability to work independently.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage all aspects of financial reporting, accounting, etc., including but not limited to Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, GL, invoicing, investment accounts, and banking.
  • Oversee and review quarterly, monthly, and annual internal reports and updates.
  • Assist Project Managers with monthly invoicing and collections.
  • Assist management with important financial decisions and the budgeting process.
  • Work closely with the HR manager to process payroll, 401k, and review benefit activity.
  • Prepare and review of annual financial statements.
  • Streamline and maintain consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs while adhering to accepted accounting standards.
  • Manage, train, hire and motivate accounting staff and other employees on financial procedures in a way that creates an environment of trust and productivity.
  • Effectively manage external relationships with our CPA, banking and financial institutions, and MassDOT.
  • Manage a small team.
  • Process accounting transactions with accuracy across multiple cost centers.
  • The month-end close process, account reconciliations, and key metric reporting.
  • Prepare of the monthly financial reporting package.
  • Analyzing GL account activity and account reconciliations.
  • Provide detailed analysis and explanations for all transactions.
  • Maintain and update department processes and procedures.
  • Assist with other projects as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or equivalent.
  • 12+ years practical accounting experience, including experience with job cost accounting.
  • 5 years in a management and supervisory role.
  • 5 years of experience in design firms such as engineering, architecture, construction or similar a plus.
  • CPA and/or MBA a plus.
  • Experience with Ajera (Deltek software) a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Excel (including VLookups, Pivot Tables, etc.).
  • Must be comfortable working in the office full-time.
