Factory Village Pond Dam

Project Overview

The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation identified six dams in the state that were in poor or unsafe condition, posed high or significant hazard and had no clear owner. Hancock Associates provided services to assist AECOM Technical Services, Inc. in their efforts to analyze the condition of each dam and provide solutions for stabilization and repair.

Existing Conditions Surveys were conducted at each site to gather detailed locations of the dam, spillway, piping and immediate upstream and downstream conditions. The Barre Reservoir Dam is a 500′ long earthen structure and a 100′ long boulder and masonry spillway on the Prince River. The Factory Village Pond Dam in Ashburnham, MA is located on Phillips Brook and consists of a concrete capped boulder dam with a gatehouse, flat rock energy dissipater and a concrete ogee spillway.
