Former Rising Paper Mill
Project Overview
Hancock Associates prepared an Activity and Use Limitation (AUL) Plan at the former Rising Paper Mill along the Housatonic River in Great Barrington, MA. Built in 1873, and added to the National Register of Historical Places in 1975, it was intended to be the world’s largest paper factory. In order to support the heavy machinery used in the papermaking process, its granite foundations were built exceptionally strong with granite quarried from nearby Monument Mountain.
The AUL plan documents land-use restrictions associated with the property and supports the long-term management of this historic site in accordance with applicable environmental requirements.
