Waring School
Beverly, MA

OVERVIEW

Our teams played a key role in the challenging design and permitting of this 7,900 sq. ft. Passive House Design of a new academic building. Since the new building was replacing an existing one near an intermittent stream, a Notice of Intent and variance to perform work in the 25-foot “No Disturb” zone were filed. A Flood Study Analysis was necessary and in order to meet local and MA Stormwater Management Requirements, we proposed a “Blue Roof” which temporarily stores water and gradually releases it over a few days to minimize the impact on the stream. Our Wetland Scientist proposed a landscaping plan that placed local native species along the stream. After a presentation to the Conservation Commission and on-site review, the project was approved in a second public hearing.
