Concord Museum
Concord, MA

OVERVIEW

In November of 2016, the Board of Governors at the Concord Antiquarian Society voted to move forward with a $13 million renovation and expansion plan. The project encompasses a new 12,900-square-foot education building, increased parking, renovations to the existing exhibit space and enhancements to the visitor area. Since the museum is located in a residential area and historic district that’s adjacent to wetlands, special approvals were needed. Hancock Associates was brought in during the five-year strategic and campus master planning process and conducted the land surveys to facilitate presentations to and approvals from the town’s Historic Districts Commission, Natural Resources Commission, Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals. The Museum houses the collection of Henry David Thoreau. Thoreau, one of America’s greatest writers, also worked as a land surveyor for much of his life.
